The joy in writing cards to those we love and cherish, is really only felt because we know how it feels to be on the receiving end: the surprise of a little hand addressed envelope sitting at the bottom of the letterbox, the intimacy of tearing at the licked-closed seal, the reveal of the chosen words, some with exclamation marks, some squished down the side, too many kisses symbols and a sweet doodle in the corner. That someone was thinking of you when you were oblivious to the attention, is always a heart warming experience. This is the joy in giving - the understanding of where the gesture began.
