Oliver Church, Singular Garments

Introducing a collection of one-off and entirely handmade jackets from Paris...

Originally from Auckland, Oliver Church gained his design experience at Garbstore in London and Casey Casey in Paris before launching his own brand, Singular Garments in 2020. His designs — mostly shirts and jackets — lean towards the practical and durable, and are designed to last a lifetime...

Each element of Oliver's pieces are made by his own hand, from cutting the fabric to hand-sewing the buttonholes. Using mostly vintage and antique cottons and linens, fabrics often between 50 and 150 years old, are sourced from markets around Paris. The age of the fabric adds both character and a sense of timelessness. Due to the nature of his production methods, quantities are extremely limited and everything is made to order. We are excited to have received a small collection of one-off jackets into Tessuti...

The 3-Pocket Jacket

Our Xtra Small 3-Pocket Jacket features an embroidered dandelion detail at the chest pocket, and our Small 3-Pocket Jacket features a sprig of lavender.

The 3-Pocket Jacket has been made using vintage French linen/cotton (approximately 50-70 years old, in perfect condition). A take on the classic French Chore Jacket, it is a melange of different years of the classic garment. However, Olivier's version is cut wide under the arm giving a looser fit than you would usually find on such a jacket. The patch pockets are all shaped for better use and to match up with the seams and natural lines of the jacket. All buttons are French vintage and all backing buttons are antique shells, hand shanked in french silk thread.

The buttonholes are also sewn by hand with slightly thicker French soie perlée. The collar has also been closed by hand giving a softer finish to the neckline. All reinforcement is done with handwoven cotton, no fusing or glue products are used in the piece, offering a more gracious way for the garment to age.

The embroidery is designed directly on the garment and each one is hand drawn without a template. This means each embroidery is one of a kind. The embroideries take several hours to realise and use multiple coloured threads.

Each jacket comes with a swatch of fabric that can be used for continued repair and upkeep of the garment, and is accompanied by a cotton garment bag for storage.
