Playing Cards

$37.50 NZD

The John Derian Playing Cards reimagine a deck of 19th-century Jeanne Hachette French transformation cards, originally created by Grimaud around 1870. Rediscovered and updated by John Derian, the deck now includes two jokers and indices for modern play while retaining its antique artistry and whimsical charm.

Beautifully printed in the USA, these cards celebrate Derian’s love of vintage ephemera — each suit adorned with imaginative, characterful illustrations that blur the line between play and art. A collector’s keepsake or gift for any card enthusiast.

ABOUT the MAKER

John Derian

John Derian’s decoupage collection brings timeless artistry into the home. Since 1989, his New York-based studio has become renowned for its handcrafted objects d’art, with each piece created using 18th- and 19th-century imagery sourced from his extensive archive of antique and vintage prints. Carefully cut, collaged, and applied by trained artisans onto handblown glass, these evocative objects are equal parts functional and collectible. The result is a poetic fusion of past and present—beautiful heirlooms made to be treasured.
