A view of Baltimore's old harbour, sails rigged and rooftops crowded along the water, wraps the surface of this desk cup in soft greens and sail-cloth cream. John Derian's studio in New York applies the antique print by hand, layering the cut paper beneath hand-blown glass so the scene sits just below the surface, lit from within by the glass itself.
Useful well beyond the desk, it holds pencils and brushes as readily as a handful of cut flowers, the fitted glass liner making it just as at home with water in it. Owning one is a little like keeping a small, framed view of a nineteenth-century port in reach: a nod to travel and trade rendered in paper and glass.
Dimensions: 10 × 8 cm. Made in New York City.
Collaged paper beneath hand-blown glass. Glass liner included.
