Papier d'Arménie has been made in Montrouge, France since 1885. The product is simple and unchanged: booklets of perforated paper strips, each one impregnated with benzoin resin, torn off and burned slowly in a room to scent and purify the air. The practice itself is older — Auguste Ponsot observed it in Armenia, where burning benzoin was a domestic tradition long before he brought it back to France.
The scent is warm, balsamic, and quietly sweet — the smell of the resin itself, nothing added. Strips can also be placed unlit in drawers, wardrobes, or between book pages, where they release a subtle fragrance over time. Handcrafted in France using methods that have not changed in over a century.
