The Bud Vase is hand-turned in Auckland by Woo-Lam (Sam) Choi of Walk in the Park. Its form is generous and rounded — a full, bulbous body in ash tapering to a narrow neck, the concentric grain rings of the timber mapping the curve of the turning across the surface. It sits on a small turned foot, giving it a considered base that belies its size. Each piece is turned individually, and the natural variations in grain, figure, and tone are part of what makes each one singular.
Designed for dried stems and arrangements only — the narrow neck holds a single stem with precision, and the solid timber body means it cannot hold water. Natural marks or small openings in the wood are not flaws — they are evidence of the material's life before the lathe.
