The Pebble Incense Holder is hand-turned in Auckland by Woo-Lam (Sam) Choi of Walk in the Park. Its form is elemental — a smooth, tactile ovoid in ebonised blue gum, the ripple grain of the timber still visible beneath the dark finish. Weighted and considered enough to hold its own on a shelf or bench. A single drilled hole accepts most standard incense sticks, holding them at a gentle angle while ash falls clear of the surface below. Each piece is turned individually, and the natural variations in grain, figure, and surface are part of what makes each one singular.
Part of Walk in the Park's Pawn Collection — a series of geometric sculptural objects that began with the form of a chess pawn and has since evolved into something entirely its own.
