Mulberry Leaves is an original acrylic on canvas (310 × 255 mm) by New Zealand artist Max Thomson. Known for his evocative interpretations of the natural world, Thomson continues to draw inspiration from the landscapes of his formative years in provincial New Zealand — returning time and again to themes of place, memory, and nature’s rhythms.

Born in Wanganui in 1945, Thomson has deep family ties to the Whanganui River and the West Coast. Since moving to Auckland in the early 1960s, he has exhibited extensively, including six solo shows, with his works consistently reflecting the profound influence of New Zealand’s land and environment.

A small but poignant work — intimate in scale, yet deeply rooted in the artist’s lifelong dialogue with landscape.
