Across the front face of this flat, square tote, a large embroidered panel rises from the base in fine stems and scattered flowers — blush, pink, soft yellow, teal, dusty blue, warm cream, and olive against a pale oatmeal ground of crocheted wool and linen. The stems are stitched with an almost calligraphic delicacy; the flowers vary from flat embroidered motifs to dimensional appliquéd blooms in felt and fabric, some with beaded centres. It is among the most restrained pieces in Sophie Digard's work — and quietly one of the most considered.
Crocheted and embroidered entirely by hand in Madagascar by the artisans Digard has long collaborated with, every stem and flower is worked individually in wool and linen, the panel built up from multiple techniques to achieve its characteristic depth and lightness.
