Three-dimensional velvet flowers — dark burgundy, sage, white, mustard, warm olive, slate grey, and acid yellow — sit proud of the surface of this compact raffia bag, each one anchored to its own square of the patchwork grid beneath. The flowers have beaded centres, their petals soft against the matte raffia ground, the colours varying from square to square with the considered variation that defines Sophie Digard's palette work.
The body is crocheted in a spiral patchwork construction from raffia and cotton by the women artisans Digard has long collaborated with in Madagascar, every flower formed individually by hand — its petals round and dimensional, its centre embroidered in fine detail. No two bags are identical.
A compact, structured shape with short handles — small in scale, considered in every detail.
