Eight flowers are worked directly into the raffia ground of this tote in a cross-stitch technique — mustard yellow, slate blue, olive, navy, warm brown, and dark chocolate, each one a flat geometric motif scattered across the pale natural surface with unhurried placement. The flowers are integral to the fabric itself rather than applied to it, giving the piece a quietly different character from Sophie Digard's embroidered and appliquéd work — more graphic, more restrained, no less considered.
The body is crocheted from 100% raffia by the artisans Digard has long collaborated with in Madagascar, the coloured motifs worked stitch by stitch into the ground as it is formed. Every piece varies slightly in the placement and tone of its flowers.
A clean, rounded silhouette with short handles.
