La Maison Dar Dar

In 1950s Damascus, a glassblower assembled a cluster of coloured glass drops — hung outdoors in courtyards and on terraces, catching light without electricity. Someone later inserted a bulb, and the Baladi was born.

La Maison Dar Dar has worked with the Damascus workshops where this tradition originated for over twenty years. Every drop is mouth-blown from recycled glass in traditional furnaces, without moulds, then assembled by hand in their Paris workshop onto metal structures designed to sit as well on a surface as they do suspended. The colour range has grown — some hues blown directly into the glass, others painted onto clear drops where recycled glass cannot hold the tint — but the form and the technique remain unchanged.

Tessuti carries the Baladi in two sizes and two colourways: the clear recycled glass and the Tutti Frutti multicolour. Each piece is unique.
