The Empire Vase takes a straight cylindrical form and wraps it in one of John Derian's pastoral scenes - a hillside village, a church spire, figures on a garden path, rendered in the fine, stippled detail of an antique engraving. The image runs continuously around the piece, so the landscape unfolds as the vase is turned.
Created in collaboration between Astier de Villatte and New York designer John Derian, the scene is applied as a fired decal, archival imagery selected by John Derian and fused permanently into the glaze.
