A honey bee in oxidised sterling silver, wings spread and caught mid-flight — the body formed around a single white freshwater pearl, held in place by fine cast claws.
Made in Louise Douglas's Nelson studio using the lost wax casting technique, the bee is hand-carved in wax before being cast in sterling silver, hand-finished, and oxidised to a dark antique tone. The openwork wings carry fine cellular detail — the kind that only reveals itself on close inspection. The pearl sits at the centre with a quiet, organic luminosity that contrasts with the depth of the oxidised silver around it.
A piece with a certain charm — worn as a talisman or simply for the pleasure of it.
