A Kina cast in oxidised sterling silver, a freshwater pearl set at its centre, on a rounded sterling silver band.
Made in Louise Douglas's Nelson studio using the lost wax casting technique, the Kina form is hand-carved in wax before being cast in sterling silver, hand-finished, and oxidised to a dark antique tone. The Kina is the traditional Māori name for a native sea urchin found in shallow waters all around New Zealand, and particularly prevalent along the Nelson Tasman coastline where Louise's jewellery is made. Worn alone or stacked with others from the collection, it carries something of that coastline with it.
