A Kina cast in oxidised sterling silver, its pitted surface preserved in careful detail, holding a single freshwater pearl at its centre.
Made in Louise Douglas's Nelson studio using the lost wax casting technique, the Kina charm is hand-carved in wax before being cast in sterling silver, hand-finished, and oxidised to a dark antique tone. The Kina is the traditional Māori name for a native sea urchin found in shallow waters all around New Zealand, and particularly prevalent along the Nelson Tasman coastline where Louise's jewellery is made. The triple A grade freshwater pearl sits within it quietly — a pairing that feels as much found as made.
