The Lambeth Star Saucer is centred on a gold-ringed medallion — a rosette of blue petals and dark red spiralling forms radiating from a yellow heart, with olive and cobalt leaf motifs repeating across the rim. It sits flat and unassuming, the pattern doing all the work, with the composed confidence of a piece drawn from a long tradition.
Part of the Delft Collection, a collaboration between Astier de Villatte and John Derian, drawing on the painted pottery tradition of Dutch manufacturers in Delft — a craft with roots reaching back to the 12th century. The design is applied as a fired decal, archival imagery selected by John Derian and fused permanently into the glaze.
