Sacai Mini Patchwork Bowl - Golden Edging

$630 NZD

The Mini Patchwork Bowl - Golden Edging is a collaboration between Astier de Villatte and Sacai.

Size: L13.9 x W13.9 x H6.7cm. Handmade ceramic, made in Paris.

From the outset, the goal was not to produce a simple capsule collection but to embark on a long-term artistic project. Indeed, the collaboration, which began in 2017, aims to create one unique piece every year.

The collection evolves slowly but surely, with each piece being the product of a rich creative exchange, a portrait of the creative mind, radical yet subtle between Chitose Abe and Astier de Villatte’s co-founders, Benoît Astier de Villatte and Ivan Pericoli. Each creation is the result of a back-and-forth process, where ideas are refined until both parties are satisfied.

The project is not just about aesthetics; it is also a tribute to artisanal techniques. One of the main inspirations behind the collection is the kintsugi technique, a Japanese art of repairing objects with gold, highlighting imperfections. The latest piece, a platter released in 2023, borrows this aesthetic with golden joints uniting the different parts of the plate, echoing the artistic restoration work.

The idea of extending the collaboration over several decades also highlights the importance of time and patience in the creative process. “This project was never destined to be a one-off. We always wanted to do the opposite. A collection that takes a long time to finish.” Each year, a new piece is added, enriching a dialogue that transcends the boundaries of time and disciplines.
