The Beauty Vase wraps a straight cylindrical form in one of John Derian's Pre-Raphaelite-inspired scenes - a rose-covered bower, a reclining figure in red, rendered with the density and colour of an old painting. The image runs continuously around the piece, so the narrative unfolds fully only as the vase is turned.
Created in collaboration between Astier de Villatte and New York designer John Derian, the scene is applied as a fired decal, archival imagery selected by John Derian and fused permanently into the glaze.
