Big Peony - Copper Flower Sculpture

The Big Peony is a hand-painted copper flower sculpture that captures the full, lavish form of this garden bloom, many layered ivory petals opening around a cluster of fine rust-red stamens. Each petal is carefully shaped and painted by hand in the Milan atelier of Elisabetta and Carolina Sonzini, where traditional craftsmanship is expressed through a refined botanical lens.

Created using tôle peinte, an 18th-century French technique of painting on metal, the piece reveals subtle depth and tonal variation through its hand-applied finish. A deep maroon base anchors the stamens at the centre, while an unopened bud and a textured seed pod sit lower on the branching stem.

Mounted on a simple black wooden base, the Big Peony is designed as a sculptural object - bringing scale and presence to a console, mantel, or interior setting. A lasting bloom, it reflects a thoughtful approach to material and craftsmanship.
