The Liza Cushion in Shaded Oro is worked in a different register to the densely embroidered Anke Drechsel pieces. The motif here is botanical and unhurried — branching stems carrying small open flowers, rounded leaves, and clusters of berries, all embroidered in warm cream thread on a silk velvet ground that moves between deep amber and bright gold. The velvet is crushed and uneven in the way of something worn and kept, and the embroidery sits lightly on its surface. All four edges are finished with a blush-pink fringe.
Designed in Germany and made by hand in India, each Liza Cushion is embroidered on the frame, piece by piece, with fabric dyed to Drechsel's own colour specifications.
