The Liza Lobster in Watermelon is covered in blossom — cream and blush flowers, small blue centres, olive leaf sprays and berry clusters worked continuously across deep rose-red silk velvet, from the body through the claws and down every leg to the tail. The embroidery does not stop at the edges. On the narrower limbs, where the surface is only a centimetre or two wide, the stitching continues regardless — which is where the patience of the making becomes most visible.
Designed in Germany and made by hand in India, each Liza Lobster is embroidered on the frame, piece by piece, with fabric dyed to Drechsel's own colour specifications. At 40 × 27 cm, it is one of the larger pieces in the collection, and one of the most labour- intensive. The Watermelon colourway — deep rose with blush, cream and the occasional note of blue — is entirely her own.
