Lola Cushion in Shaded Brown 45x45

The Lola Cushion in Shaded Brown is the most painterly of Anke Drechsel's cushion designs. A single large composition sweeps across the face: scrolling stems carry open roses in rose-pink and cream, star-shaped flowers in powder blue, toothed leaves edged in teal and gold, and a small bird perched quietly among the branches. The embroidery is generous in scale and varied in technique — satin stitch, raised padded forms, fine stem stitch — worked on a silk velvet ground that moves between deep tobacco-brown and warm amber depending on the light.

Designed in Germany and made by hand in India, each Lola Cushion is embroidered on the frame, piece by piece, with fabric dyed to Drechsel's own colour specifications.
