The Luxus Elephant in Gold & Platinum is covered entirely in two things: flat silver sequins and fine gold bugle beads, hand-applied across every surface from trunk to tail. The sequins catch direct light and flash; the bugle beads fill the ground between them with a finer, warmer glint. The balance between the two shifts as the piece is moved — more silver in bright light, more gold in shadow — which means it is never quite the same object twice.
Designed in Germany and made by hand in India, each Luxus Elephant is worked on the frame, piece by piece, to Drechsel's own specifications. The tail ends in a small gold tassel. The soles and the reverse of the ears are plain silver velvet — the same cool tone as the sequins above them, but soft where everything else catches light.
