The Madame Bovary Dachshund in Shaded Yellow makes the most of its form. The long body — shaded amber-gold silk velvet moving between warm ochre and pale sand — carries large botanical embroidery: a sunflower-like bloom in teal and dusty pink, dandelion clocks in blush and crimson, fern fronds in deep green. The ears have their own motif — a single trailing stem of rose-red buds, contained and precise — quite different in mood from the body, and all the more interesting for it.
Designed in Germany and made by hand in India, each Madame Bovary Dachshund is embroidered on the frame, piece by piece, with fabric dyed to Drechsel's own colour specifications. At 36 cm long, the form gives the embroidery room to breathe — and Drechsel uses every centimetre of it.
