The Misha Giraffe in Antique Gold is built around a single contrast: deep amber-ochre silk velvet, rich and burnished, worked throughout with cornflower-like blooms in periwinkle and steel blue. Each flower has a cream centre and sits on fine tonal gold stems that trail and branch across the body, neck, legs and tail — the embroidery does not stop until it runs out of surface. The gold-amber fringe mane blends into the velvet beneath it, so the blue flowers do all the work of drawing the eye.
Designed in Germany and made by hand in India, each Misha Giraffe is embroidered on the frame, piece by piece, with fabric dyed to Drechsel's own colour specifications. At 34 cm tall, the form carries the embroidery well — there is room for the trailing stems to move, and they do.
