The Mushroom I is an amanita in silk velvet — deep crimson cap scattered with hand-embroidered white spots, the form so precisely observed it reads as both decorative object and botanical study. The stem is cream velvet, worked with fine gold embroidery: fern fronds and seed heads, delicate and unhurried. The two surfaces — cap and stem — are distinct in colour, texture and embroidery, and the junction between them is finished with a small cream velvet frill.
Designed in Germany and made by hand in India, each mushroom is embroidered on the frame, piece by piece, with fabric dyed to Drechsel's own colour specifications. Sold individually. Works well grouped with Mushroom II and Mushroom III.
