The Romy Cushion in Silver covers its entire face in a repeated open flower — five scallop-edged petals worked in warm blush thread on a pale ivory silk velvet ground. The blooms are even and closely spaced, each centre punctuated with a small gathered stitch, the pattern allover and softly rhythmic. The velvet beneath holds a quiet warmth, giving the blush embroidery a ground that shifts between ivory and the palest cream in the light. Up close the stitch is clear and precise; from a distance the surface reads as a delicate, textured field of blush on ivory.
Designed in Germany and made by hand in India, each Romy Cushion is embroidered on the frame, piece by piece, with fabric dyed to Drechsel's own colour specifications.
