The Romy Cushion in Spring Rose works differently to most Anke Drechsel embroidery. Rather than covering the velvet, the embroidery defines it — a continuous trellis of scalloped gold and warm taupe thread outlines a repeating flower form, each one a four-lobed shape with a small star motif at its centre. The blush silk velvet becomes the pattern itself, visible through and within the embroidered lattice. Up close the stitch is dense and raised; from a distance the surface reads as a quietly geometric field of pink and gold.
Designed in Germany and made by hand in India, each Romy Cushion is embroidered on the frame, piece by piece, with fabric dyed to Drechsel's own colour specifications.
