The Sona Elephant in Blue works in warm against cool — amber-gold chenille flowers scattered densely across pale blue silk velvet, their raised, looped surface catching light in a way flat embroidery does not. Fine trailing stems and leaf sprays in blush pink and soft blue connect them throughout, and the ear carries a single large starburst motif in the same warm gold chenille, worked from a central cluster outward. The tail ends in a small gold tassel.
Designed in Germany and made by hand in India, each Sona Elephant is embroidered on the frame, piece by piece, with fabric dyed to Drechsel's own colour specifications. The chenille embroidery gives this piece a tactile quality that photographs suggest but do not fully convey.
