The Stadium Salt Pig in walnut is hand-turned in Auckland by Woo-Lam (Sam) Choi of Walk in the Park. Its form is immediately distinctive — an ebonised mahogany sphere resting in a fluted walnut cylinder, the near-black of the lid deepening against the warm, open grain of the dish below. It is the darkest of the Stadium salt pigs, and the most quietly dramatic. Each piece is turned individually, and the natural variations in grain, figure, and colour are part of what makes it singular.
Salt is accessed by lifting the sphere from its vessel — a gesture that is as considered as the object itself. Natural marks or small openings in the wood are not flaws — they are evidence of the material's life before the lathe.
