The Kylin Giraffe in Citrine stands 34 centimetres tall, and every centimetre of its citrine yellow silk velvet is worked with the same small geometric motif — a white square with a brown centre, placed evenly across the body, neck, face and legs. The pattern reads like a textile reference, something between bandhani and mirror work, and it gives the piece a graphic clarity that is quite different from Drechsel's floral pieces. The mane is dense gold-brown fringing, running the full length of the neck.
Designed in Germany and made by hand in India, each Kylin Giraffe is embroidered on the frame, piece by piece, with fabric dyed to Drechsel's own colour specifications. Its height gives it a different kind of presence to the other creatures in the collection — this one is designed to be looked up at.
